Suri Poulos
Suri specialises in the intricate Nerikomi ceramic technique, tracing its roots back to the 7th century China.
She infuses coloured stains into porcelain.
To achieve the patterns she layers slices of coloured clay into a block. After slicing and reconfiguring the block multiple times, she takes thin cross-sectional slices to reveal intricate designs. She then rolls and compresses the slices into a sheet and carefully presses the shapes into moulds to be fired and glazed.
The process spans 6-8 weeks allowing drying time between each stage.
